Chewing and Digging
Chewing
Chewing is a very common puppy behavior. While common, the behavior is typically done because of boredom. Aussies are very smart and need physical and mental stimulation. Taking your dog for a walk or playing in the back yard will help with boredom but Aussies must have mental stimulation. You can buy dog puzzles and games to play with your dog, but short stents of training works the brain and exhausts the dog in a great way as well. Not to mention these dogs love to please so the more they can learn from you that makes you happy the better they feel.

All of that said puppies will chew. Your dog is considered a puppy for the first year and a half to 2 years of his life, so don't stop training time, play time, and walks just because he has reached a size you feel is that of an adult dog.

Just like small children, dogs do not have a sense of what is safe to chew on vs the things that could choke him. Nor does he know the difference between your favorite sneakers and the toy you bought him. It's your job to keep your puppy and your sneakers safe!

Digging
Again, digging is often the result of being bored. However some Aussies have a desire to dig more than others. Keep up with training, playtime, and walks, but also research ways to minimize digging you can try. My favorite one that works for us is putting their own poop in the hole and then covering it with a thin later of dirt.
